i sell seed in north iowa and southerm mn, walking fields august 1st and than august 15th the ear size really shrink, ears with 45 long now down to 37, dont know why had normal temperetures and enough rain

I am seeing some of the same thing that you are.

At the same time, I see them flexing tremendous girth. I have never seen ears so fat. I am not as concerned about kernels around or kernels long. I am concerned that my plant stays alive and keeps sucking up fertility until past black layer. Good chance that happens across a WIDE area of the state.
