I'm not positive but it seems that this design is the same basic principal as a subsoiler shank and point. This lifts the dirt- as I am plowing the dirt about 1.5' in front of that shank is already lifting. We don't have issues with the sidewalls smearing, as they are all shattered into pieces and chunks. I guess the main reason the shank is straight, not angled/gradual like you are wondering about is that this was ALOT easier to build! Good question. I have thought about adding a piece of angle iron to the front of the shank, but then I would be worried about slicing (and smearing sidewalls) through the ground vs shattering it. When I shatter it, I don't think I have to worry about water flowing through the sidewalls of the trench. | |
