Subject: Re: Truck engines, what's best?

Central Iowa
We have a Cat, Cummins, and a Detroit. I have heard good things about the MB engine from a local trucking company, they say they get excellent economy. We had the Detroit rebuilt at Freightliner 2 years ago, pretty expensive, ($18,000). We took a royal screwing on that deal. The Cat is a 3406B, the only problem with it is weight. I would say buy the truck you feel you can afford that looks the best maintained. Our last truck we bought from Ryder, it came with all the service records and they took care of a fuel pump problem we had a couple months later. Good luck!
