Subject: RE: vegetation map

Mason City, IL
First time I could get down my lanes to look at fields a bit closer. I was mowing my lanes, drove through a bit of water and began mowing off the dead corn plants. Couldn't do it all yet as I almost got stuck just doing this. I was surprised and disappointed how far the damage extends past the brown/ dead plants. There is much more of the stunted and even the somewhat normal looking corn that doesn't have an ear at all. A few have a 3 inch nubbin. My point is this, even though there is green vegetation, it doesn't mean there is a normal yield. (at least here on my farm) I had been estimating loosing 30% of my corn but looks more like it will be 50%. Beans have lost about 25% of acres. Never has been dry enough to consider replant of anything. But it looks good by the road. Yeah.
