someone may correct me if I am wrong, but the panhandle of Nebraska is not corn. You are looking at pasture. The amount of corn grown in what appears to be the sweet spots of the western corn belt is a fart in the breeze compared to what has been lost back east, my opinion.
Not sure about Nebby panhandle but here are some acreage numbers to ponder....
Iowa - 13,700,000 - 83% G/E
Illinois - 11,800,000 - 55% G/E
Nebraska - 9,300,000 - 73% G/E
Minnesota - 8,200,000 - 86% G/E
Indiana - 5,700,000 - 45% G/E
South Dakota - 5,200,000 - 76% G/E
Wisconsin - 4,100,000 - 83% G/E
Kansas - 4,050,000 - 58% G/E
To me it seems that the G/E numbers out of the North and West Corn belt, where we grow most of our corn, are going to outweigh the eastern corn belt problems. Until doing this exercise, I did not realize how little of a player Indiana is. South Dakota almost has as many corn acres, and Nebraska and Minnesota dwarf their acres.
