I had the updated deck plates on part of my 3408 and and the regular deck plates on the other half of the head. The updated ones were not quite as good but not a big difference. Since then traded to a 4000 series head and am very happy. They now have a stalk grabber kit that I think bolts right on to the knives of the 3000 series that is supposed to help with feeding. You might want to check these out.
