Actually we have good luck doing that, but we do two passes, one with fertilizer, and one with the wheat, both passes onto worked ground. We put out about 90lbs of wheat and then disk it lightly, or use a field cultivator to cover it up...check with your crop insurance company to see if this is an approved practice though for your area...
