Subject: Need help with horizontal unloading gear case on a JD 9500

sw MN
We are rebuilding the unloading system on a later JD 9500. New augars, bearings, and gears were needed. We took the horizontal gear case ( the one in the elbow of the augar) apart, checked the gears, replaced the bearings, seals , races, and shims. The problem is I can not quite tighten it all the way up before the gears get tight against each other. I can tight one hub and get the other about 1/16" from being tight, then the gears get too tight. This has the srew on hubs with 2 shims on each. JD parts shows using 2 shims on each hub. What am I doing wrong? I put 1 large snap ring between the races and 1 small ring against the gear end of the shaft. Boy do I wish I had justed skipped this gear case ( it was in good shape) but I wanted to do the whole system when it was apart. Thanks for any help on this. I need to get it back togeather ASAP.
