As others have said SMUT. Pretty common in wet years. I've never tried it, nor will I lol, but they say if you pick it off the plant before it matures (the smut pictured is way past this point ) it is an edible delicacy. Apparently some hoity toity restaurants in the big cities charge big for it.
Whats up with this corn?
