Subject: RE: Un used soy seed - what to do

NW Central Ohio
...OK, I have at least 45 acres of beans seeded with last year's treated product. They look pretty good so far. But I've tried to plant treated beans that were 2 years old...that didn't germinate any at all. Here's what I think might be happening with some treated beans that won't germinate after 1 year of storage. They might have been 2 year old seed that came from the grower, that tested perfectly fine for germination this year....but the second year they will actually be 3 years old. My seed company generally doesn't like excess inventory...so I believe they probably have very few soybeans held over from one year to the next (Probably none). I never have much trouble getting a stand when I hold them over and plant 2 year old beans from them.
