Subject: can you see a difference in these two plants...

ecmn
these two plants were only 15 ish feet apart in the same row. first year of doing real no till corn. this year is a tough year for no till. cold and wet. in this field I did some work with the finisher around ditchs. the corn around the ditches is even. in the no till its not even. so I started looking. its not a fertilizer issue, not a soil issue, planting depth seems very close from row to row. no sidewall compaction....time for the shovel.
the only difference I can see is seed orientation. in the one the seed is pointing down and the other the seed is laying flat.

now I wonder if I should get rid of the Keaton seed firmers? maybe they are rolling and sticking seeds facing down.
so if going to stay no till need to get some things corrected for next year.
