Subject: RE: Frosted Corn Update

Arva, Ontario

Pete,

Every year is different, and I think if we tried to replicate this situation, we'd be a long time.

I believe the corn plant at the cell division level was damaged. We've frosted a lot of tissue off in the past, but this year's combination of very dry soil, residue cover (including the 'beloved' cover crop), plus topography, then combined with the critical air temperature id some damage to young corn plants. These plants have lived, they will be contributing members of the crop community, but the stress they encountered has them running behind.

A first for me... I have "tile run" corn. That is where I can locate the tile runs because the soil was just a wee bit drier over the runs, and my damage was just a wee bit heavier...  Oh well, the "tile-run" wheat some year will enjoy the extra P&K remaining...

Ken
