I think PP is wrong-headed as set up, not that I blame anyone for using it as long as its there.

But it is counter productive to the greater good. It ensures that when we have poor crops, we stop trying to grow what little we can grow, so a grain shortage gets worse because of the PP program....

So its hard to get far with your point. The govt pays most of your premium to cover your rear if you can't get a crop planted, and you are upset you are missing a little extra gravy if the price of grain goes up in fall?

Which is rare, probably only happens -because of- the PP program. After all, the PP program insures farmers get money, and the nation gets less grain...... Perhaps the irony of the PP program is it raises the income of farmers that have a great crop more so than it pays out extra gravy to those making claims?

Its a big topic, with many different views of it all.

Average Joe American is going to be mighty upset this October when they find out how much is getting paid out to farmers under this new program because of the big bubbles in grain prices. I think we have bigger problems coming our way than you missing a little gravy in your payments.
