There was a guy who post here on agTalk that had been working with that. I don't remember his handle. I think the idea behind this is that having alternating rows will help with air flow. In a really hot summer, you won't have the heat build-up in the middle of a corn field. If I remember correctly, the edges of the corn helped to increase corn yields, but I don't think it helped the soybeans, since the corn would shade the soybeans somewhat- especially late in the season. edit: here's a couple of articles from the past on the subject.
