Prairie Home MO | Let me leadoff by saying I am a beginning farmer and this is my first crop. I have been blessed and have been one of the very few that hasn't gotten washed out with all this rain. Crops look good so far and I'm trying not to screw it up.
1) I posted a picture below of some bugs that are cannibalizing the silks on my corn. They are doing it on all three varieties: DK 64-69, DK 62-98, and Lewis R1010VT2P. So far they are only doing to the outside two rows along the roadways however I only found them tonight and I know they weren't there two days ago. What are they and should I be worried? There is a guy in my area that I can get to fly on some sort of insecticide.
2) Are fungicides worth it on corn? Do you typically see a yield bump from them? Are there any adverse side affects? Had one guy tell me that it bumped yield but killed dry down. Is that true? Also could a fungicide app be made with an insecticide app? TIA
