Pedee, Oregon | I sell mine mostly to repeat customers. I make "big" two-tie, 16x18x48. About 75-80 lb bale. Good grass hay is 5-6 bucks a bale out of the field right now. I put all my orchardgrass in storage and get 8 bucks a bale in the winter. Craigslist works if you have to use it, but I probably get 10 tire-kickers to 1 actual customer. Our regional ag newspaper, the Capital Press, is a very good place to advertise hay and straw for sale.
Very few round bales here, those are usually wrapped silage bales. Even those are being replaced with wrapped large squares.
Export market is all over the place. The lack of container service at Portland is really affecting prices. Straw baling season is just starting here so it will be interesting to see how that market settles. Most hay presses have converted to big square bale now. Just a few left that take 3-tie.
