Subject: Allis Chalmers 7040 question.

We bought a '75 (I think) AC 7040 this summer and so far it has been working out quite well. Our biggest problem is cab entry/exit. Ours has a two-rung ladder that sits almost flush with the fuel tank for access into the cab. Dad has trouble finding the rungs when he can't see them and I'm afraid he's gonna slip and fall.

I was waiting for a guy at a dealership in another town on the weekend and whilst killing time, I was looking around the used lot. There was an AC 7020 that looked like it was a bit newer than my tractor (cab insulation, numbers on the decals were bigger) and it had WAY better steps. They were like stairs with treads and risers and these steps were in line with the door when it was opened, at about 45 degrees to the rear wheel. Can anyone tell me what years of manufacture these steps were available on the 70 series AC?

The dealership knows nothing about their tractor including age or previous owner so I assume it was picked up at auction somewhere, so that's no help.

Can anyone help?
