I learned a long time ago that looks don't always mean best yields on beans. I've found that what you said is definetly true...that early on conventional beans will always look better. But u have a hot dry august and no-till are gonna do much better. Years like this can really test a no tillers will- but he needs to remember the dry years. Bottom line for me is conventional may yield a bit better over a ten year period- but not enough to cover the extra time and $ spent . Also most no tillers are trying to increase soil organic matter etc. and improve the soil- that needs to be figured in as well.
