rebuilder - This year is not making me feel like a good farmer.
Join the club!  I think you will be pleased with the end result.  I've mentioned Mike Strohm in the past. We lost him to Pancreatic cancer way too young. I really wish I had spent more time talking with Mike.  He had a lot of interesting, innovative, and controversial ideas.

What you are doing is something he was playing with.  He was also using rye and vetch for corn cover crops. His goal was going 200 bushels corn with at most 100 pound of commercial nitrogen.

Like I said, I think you will be surprised and pleased with the end result.  Keep us informed.  And tell your dealer to get you a new hat.
