| PP is abused around here and needs to be tweaked. Too many big operations that take PP on 20% of their acres every year because they don't have enough machinery and man power to farm it right. In today's climate, if you can't get your corn planted in 5-7 days of good running then you need to re think your setup. Same with beans. I see too many farmers piddle humping around for weeks of ideal weather to plant a crop. Not saying everyone but we all know a few. I know several instances of repeat PP guys getting caught around here when the insurance company flies over and sees all the neighbors are planted. For the record 2/3 of my acreage is in the Mississippi River bottoms and I have never taken PP and have never had to plant for the first time after June 20th...replant, yes. | |
