spend money stupidly and you won't be farming long at this day and age. Putting money in a turd for a turd is pretty stupid. I don't blame anybody for looking at options and what clicker stated is nothing more than iggnorance to a situation. Everyone what to say farming is a business now so treat it like one and protect capital instead of your ego.
Hmmmm I think that was the jist of Clickers post.....
Pre current crop insurance options, folks HAD to be more conservative......
You HAD to factor in your operation might not survive....if you got over extended. Now, you can almost gaurentee a profit....
Now, risk is less.....margins get tighter and tighter....farms were diversified back then. Lots of hogs, cattle, hay. Hogs are gone which my 86 year old grandpa will tell you was their insurance back in the day. He will also tell you he hasn't seen weather like we have had the past 7 years in his lifetime that happened like it has. So living in the past does nothing to your bottom line. He will tell you how simple things were back then. Until the 80's he lived through some of the best years in ag. | |
