I use them. But I have a custom calibration for our soil. I'm not sure about the default numbers. I would say when you have a decline in 18 or 20" deep moisture for a couple days I'd look at irrigating. Your irrigation won't move that deep, but you can meet ET required while monitoring sub water use.

I basically use 50% depletion at 12" deep sensor, but not sure if that's the right rec for your conditions.
