Subject: RE: Going Organic

Penn Yan, NY
We got our first 157 ac of corn in the first week of may and were able to cultivate all of that first time but Have not been in the field since then. we have 200 out there now that has yet to see its first time through and really needs it. I think we can still salvage it and get most of the weeds but the second planting will not be practically weed free like the first.

We went with Garford because it was cheaper than Einbock and because Garford has been building these systems longer so we thought they may have more of the bugs worked out.

As far as I can tell, all camera based systems have trouble with shadows, wind, and very heavy weed pressure. All of these through off the contrast which is what the cameras use to detect where the rows are.

They also don't work well in the dark without supplemental light, we have an LED light mounted right below the camera shining at the same section of row and that seems to do the trick for night time use.
