I'm thinking some radish/turnip (1-2# or so each) and legume like cowpeas or soybeans at 50-70k acre (longer maturing the better) then....

Ed Winkle please forgive me for what I'm about to suggest....

.........fall chisel it under as a green manure crop. Where I fall chiseled at my house the corn looks better then where I just field cultivated this spring. I hate to say it but I'm gonna go back to chiseling a few acres every year.
