Subject: RE: Ford 8340

New Brunswick, Canada
S/SL/SLE model have all different trannies. S/SL don't often have the electronic hitch while the SLE does. SLE has load sensing pressure comp closed centre. If the front axle braking isn't disabled it tends to have worn the splines on the input to the front axle.

The ones I have driven (7740SLE's, white top and blue top) all ran to high hours, like 16,000. The white top had computer issues. Both had the 4 speed power shift, a sync hi low and a non-sync high low. I think the blue top would speed match the powershift when you shifted the sync high low. The blue top had a declutch button on the shifter so no clutch, the white top didn't have the dump button.

The shuttle was a right hand lever on the console. I don't think it was a power reverser like a TS, I recall clutching to use it.

The ones I used all had 3 or 4 sets of remotes from new, one had a loader valve tapped in with the load sense hooked up. The other used two of the remotes.

The quirk of the load sense, if the pump was destroked it takes a second to wake it up using the loader, drove me nuts. Once running the the pump was very fast so its not really precise but great for chasing bales etc. We were using forks to move top heavy equipment out of a shop when it was ticking me off with the jerking.

The hitch we had to frig with a few times, I can't remember but the owner had no trouble. If there is a genuine problem it could be cheap like a position sensor or wire, or expensive like control valve.

Tell me about these tractors? The good and bad and things to look out for? Seems like all the research I've done is positive with a few electrical gremlins in the earlier models. It has a blue top cab.

Looking for a FWA loader tractor. I know they aren't the heaviest but price is decent and the ones I've checked out so far seem to be a comfortable nimble tractor for moving bales, etc.

Couple of other questions

Is the tranny a true powershift?
The one I'm looking at has 3 point issues, what could it be and could it be spendy?
What kind of hydraulic system is on there?
Can I mid mount a valve for a loader and joystick? What's the best way to plumb?
How hard or can you add extra SCVs? It only has 2 and I like 4.

Also on another note, where can I find the additional hydralic lines for a Farmhand XL495 loader. What's the thoughts on this loader. Doesn't have a grapple so would need to add one.
