He probably figures it doesn't hurt to ask, I doubt he expects you to say, "OK!".
One notorious operator around here was fond of skipping out on second half rent in the last year of handshake rent deals, maybe that's what he's got in mind. He would take all the cornstalks he could bale and haul off the last year as well.
