NE Iowa | When was is planted and what variety? I like to plant my sweet corn at the same time as my field corn to keep things simple. I just plant different maturities to spread out the picking. I've found that if you plant early you need to stick with the "old" or traditional sugar enhanced (SE) varieties. They have much better seedling vigor and can tolerate being planted early. If you want to plant the newer high sugar stuff you need to wait until ground temps are really warm because the seed is so shrunken it takes perfect conditions to come up. Below is a list that shows what the letters after the variety means. Basically the top 4 in the list tend to have good germination and the bottom 4 need better conditions to germinate.
