Subject: RE: July planted sweet corn?

Near-north Ontario, French River
Here in Ontario the processors will plant until June 30. 99% of the time the corn matures fine, unless its gets taken out by an early October frost. One thing I will say is that the later planted stuff usually doesn't have much taste to it. Sweet corn needs heat and sun to make sugar, cooler fall temps will produce a beautiful looking cob of corn "here" but it's pretty much tasteless. I see you are probably 2-3 "south" of me here in Ontario, as the crow flies, so I wouldn't be concerned with planting in early July. I think I would set the 15th as the cut off though.
