I don't dry much either, always hope to take out of the field but 2013 I couldn't get any corn dryer than 22, some up to 26%. Elevator was asking crazy money to dry so I went out in search of a batch dryer and ended up with a Behlen 500 PTO batch dryer. I think I gave $800 for it and it dried 30K bu pretty inexpensively. Probably $.10- $.15 in propane when it was $1.50 and about the same in diesel, think it was around $3.50 at the time, that is taking out 10 points and cooling. I couldn't see getting anything that needed electricity since I have a few separate bin sites and none have very good power service. It self loads and unloads with it's own hopper and discharge which takes some manpower to do but it works well for me.
If you are setting up something permanent I would definitely get a continuous flow or at minimum an automatic batch dryer.
If you bought that dryer you have north of Breckenridge, MN, I sold it to you- |
