How many of you would help out a buddy by storing stuff for them and not report it when the bankruptcy happens? "Hey, a hobby pulling tractor shouldn't really be part of the bankruptcy, we'll just hold it for you! Oh, and they won't know the difference if it has a stock turbo, so let's put one on and hide the good stuff for another day." "Hey, before all this started, we had some money, so let's put some of that out of reach until this settles down." That's all it took to get the wife and employees, etc, into trouble. I'd bet a huge number of bankruptcies have this sort of thing going on. But this one had high enough stakes to make it worth their while to find the stuff. We haven't hit the climax of the story yet. The lesson for me is to watch what I do if I ever get involved in someone else's business failure. Before reading about this, I wouldn't have realized helping to load a truck might be enough to get me in trouble. |
