U.S Aggregate Credit Market Instruments (total public and private sector debt) and Money Stock are two fundamentally different entities.  Why anyone would conflate the two or suggest that one should equal the other is beyond me, but it suggests a lack of understanding of how debt (and money) functions within the macro economy.
