Both kind of failures can happen to either engine. Our 350 cummins in our 1982 KW blew up on us taking a load of grain to town. Meanwhile our 3406 in our Freightliner starting using oil one year slowly at first but after a couple of years it was up to a gallon a day before it got overhauled.
