X2 on cheaper and less fuel consumption on the Cummings. Put a lot of miles on several. Around several more. No one ever walked home. A Cummings will run and get gradually worse. Cats tend to have catastrophic failures. Broken cranks and thrown rods.
I saw a guy pull a load with no water in Cummings.. He made it 30 miles before it quit. He added water right away and drove it the rest of the day. The block actually turned blue it was so hot!
