Subject: RE: School Band Instrument Purchase

Zabcikville, TX
I started band in the 6th grade. Had the usual open house with the instrument dealer. We all know how the mid 80's were in ag. I didn't get a new instrument/trumpet. It was just too much for mom and dad to spend. I got a used, but nice, King. Good quality, great sound. I still play it from time to time. I think (IIRC) a new one was around $700, mine was $360. That used horn (and a lot of practice) got me to first chair the middle of my freshman year. It kept me there until I left the band my mid junior year. I would go with a good, used name brand before a new cheaper brand. The cheaper ones can sound "tinny", because they are made from lighter material. I rented to own a new King trumpet for my oldest daughter. They also had a trade-up program. Just some different options.
