While I personally couldn't carry a tune in a 5 gallon bucket, all of my kids were musically talented and have passed those genes on to their kids. Each of them were started on used instruments that the first thing we did was take the instrument to the shop and have it completely gone through. In most cases that cost as much or more than the instrument did. As previously stated, if the instrument doesn't play right, the student will not stay interested in it.
