ECIL | I vote on renting first also, especially with a 10 year old. If your child decides to switch instruments you aren't out much compared to buying. My son plays French horn. From what he has told me it is one of the more difficult instruments to learn. A basic three-valve horn is best to start learning with. As your son grows he will be better abled to play a four-valve horn. As for college later on, there aren't all that many horn players so if he is good he has a greater chance at a scholarship just due to scarcity, as opposed to a sax or trumpet player for example.
As for instrument sound, a good instructor can work with that to bring out the best in your son. | |
