Subject: RE: Son and Hired Man.....

Buying land usually doesn't pencil out, cows usually don't pencil out.. Some way if a guy wants it he can make it work. Pick up another side gig? Just ideas not telling you what to do.. I started with 0 land/money/equipment bought a few feeder calves and tried to double the number every year.. Quite a few times felt like I was wasting my life away. Seems like all of a sudden you find me land or a neighbor wanting to retire and you go to 5x your size (which isn't always good small steps usually are better, but some times you gotta close your eyes and write the check and hope for the best) I've always said (main income from cattle) if I lose it all I'm pretty sure I'll learn a lot and not make those mistakes again. The cattle market can make you lose it all too as I am sure corn/soy farming can. Just start building - if you can figure out a way to buy an 80 or 40 or 20 do it...
