sounds like hired man has been their awile your father has counted on him you were away at colledge and father has built up loyalty to him I would take time to fit in

He has been there a while, while I was in high school he was hired... and we all really like the guy. Believe me I wish I/we could pick up 1000 acres tomorrow and there could be all of us. But unless that happens I don't see the need and I feel like I am getting the short end of the stick. During college I lived close enough to home I could help 3-4 days week. I built my schedule around planting and harvest. I won't lie the hired man is a bit more mechanically inclined than myself, but there is nothing that I can't learn. Every single year for the last few years I get called from my dad, uncle, or the hired guy "Yeah how do I setup an AB line again?" I understand the technology where as the older generation struggles more. Last fall was really my first time working full time on the farm and it really did work great having 4 people in the fall, but when I get told their isn't enough money in the operation to allow a 4th I feel the solution should be let him go, and work a little harder. With 3 people during harvest it is slightly less efficient and the truck drivers may have to run the cart at times/switch trucks instead of 2 truck drivers 1 cart guy, and 1 combine operator. But they did it for years when I was too young.
