Nebraska, The land of corn and cattle | L down bar - 4/8/2015 12:14 I have the left side shoulder/ribs/hip for my brand, I have always called it L down bar, but I guess I could call it Lazy L down bar. I did not realize others could use the same brand and just specify a single region instead of all. That doesn't make sense to me, hope I misunderstood. I looked up the Nebraska brand book online, and there is a brand same as mine registered for all the right side. No specific region for the left. I like looking at brands and the terminology. Thank you
It just depends on how it was bought to begin with, my Grandpa bought our brand in the 40s I think, and bought the whole side, but some guys just bought one spot, I think it cost so much per "area" so some guys just bought one area, in that case someone else could technically buy and use the exact same brand but on a different spot, it probably doesnt happen all that often, but it can. I just looked ours up and theres someone who has the exact same brand but on the left hip only. In that case if we wanted to, we could also buy the left shoulder and rib, at least according to the brand book, because no one owns those places.
It should list your brand and say position, L-SRH, which would be the whole left side. Some will just list R-H or R-SH which would be R shoulder or R shoulder and hip
As long as you own the whole side then no one else could put that brand on that side no matter what. It only gets confusing when a single spot is owned.
