My mom makes a similar baked Mac and Cheese. This may not be the exact same as your Mom's but it is super easy to throw together and can feed an Army! You can also 1/2 the recipe id needed. Here is the recipe - I just usually use whatever cheese I have around, we also love to add jalepenos or red pepper flakes for a little kick! Also, is good with bacon or ham thrown in.

2 Cups uncooked macaroni noodles
1 stick of butter, divided
2 bags of your choice of shredded cheese
5 cups of milk (I typically use 2% or vitamin D, but it can be made it skim)
Salt and Pepper, to taste

Layer the ingrdients in a 9x13 pan in the order given. Cook in oven at 350 uncovered for about an hour. I usually check at 45 min to make sure the top is not getting too brown, if it is just throw some foil over top.

Tips:
I cut the butter up into approx. tablespoon size pieces then just scatter over the top of noodles.
DO NOT COOK THE NOODLES. They will become soft while baking.
If your pan looks a little full with the mixture, you can put a cookie sheet under the dish in case it bubbles over.
