A tongue lashing is for the military, not disciplining children. Discipline should be done in a calm, controlled manner, not out of anger. If it was me, I would have a heart to heart about the situation and let them know my expectations. I would then give a spanking because they disobeyed me and the rules and that gets consequences, no matter the situation. I don't know if there is something more going on, but having a heart to heart instead of a tongue lashing would be a better way to figure that out. Good luck. Raising kids is the most important job of those who have them will ever have.
