Subject: RE: JD 4990 rotary wading up lodged orchard grass

Your problem is that the conditioner is not grabbing and feeding the material thru. My 4990 does the same thing in some conditions, but only since I put in Circle C rolls. Prior to that the factory urethane rolls never bothered. Same applies with cutting cornstalks. I tried to cut ryegrass this spring and had the same problem. I tried everything as far as changing settings, finally gave up and hooked up the MOCO, and sailed thru it no problem. The only difference is the MOCO is a 13 foot...same rolls as the 4990. I figured that less head per foot of conditioner must allow it to feed better. My only suggestion besides slowing down would be to try cutting when it's dryer out. Not much help i guess...
