We had guests from NE Ohio a few days ago. We took the jet boat tour up the river, through the Topoc Gorge. Some pics taken along the way: Chemehuevi Mountains on the California side of the lake. Mohave Mountains on the Az side of the lake as we were leaving LHC and heading upriver Mohave rock formations More of the same: More Mohave Rock along the shore. This one might bear a little closer inspection though. Closer shot of 1000+ year old art. Front view from the tour boat. Sand bores caused by turbulance during high water flows before the dams. Please excuse the window reflections. Another sand bore Star Gazer rock formation. If you use your imagination, you should be able to see a person looking up. According to Indian lore, if the star gazer opened his eyes as you passed down the river, you'd have safe passage, as he was looking after you. If he failed to open his eyes, you were in for a treacherous trip. Due to the angle of the wind cut hole, you would not be able to see the opening if you were on the water when the level was higher. Hence, with that much flow, you were in for a rough trip, according to the star gazer and such would also be the assumption if you used your head. Another human form rock formation. Known by early travelers as the "Praying Indian". You should be able to make out a left facing human with his hands folded in prayer. Edited to add missing Star Gazer picture
