Not sure if I'm remembering correctly or not. I believe Humates are basically carbon from broken down plant matter, if so you would want a high carbon cover crop (cereal rye) if humate production is your goal. If quick organic matter with nutrients which will be available for you're next crop is your goal, you will want a cover that will break down quickly (radishes, turnips) and maybe a legume for nitrogen production. A mix of covers will give you some of all of the benefits and possibly the best for the soil and crop. Patrick
