Humates come from the natural decay of plant tissue. I picked turnips as they were mentioned above, but they also produce a large quantity of plavt tissue both above and below the ground. Plus they are reasonable less expensive than scattering "Humates". The analogy would be trying to bust a concrete wall with a sledge hammer with a wrecking ball sitting above it. Yeah the sledge hammer will bust it , but one lick from the from the wrecking ball dirs way more.
