Eastern Iowa | NH3 certainly can kill biology at the injection point. I'm sure rootworm eggs in the path of the knife are toast. However this won't lead to reduced rootworm pressure. Too small an area is affected. Earthworms seem to recover well also if other major tillage is avoided. Life returns quite quickly to the death zone from what I've seen. As others have said every fertilizer has tradeoffs. After many years of experimenting I still think NH3 is a fine source of N at normal rates for crop production. Most stable form available but use with caution. | |
