The conversion from urea into ammonia is a chemical reaction, not biological. It's the conversion from ammonia into nitrate that is biological.
Urea converts into ammonia fairly rapidly above 15 C. And it does convert below that temperature, it's just slower. So I don't understand how it's better than ammonia.
