Subject: No crossflow allowed.

I would rather quit combining than to reduce the efficiency of the machine going to a crossflow. ;-)

If you watch the history of the cih machines, you'll notice a few funny things have gone on. They moved the engine air screen from the side, to the rear right into the dirt and dust only to move it right back to the side again where it should have stayed the whole time. They went to the small diameter crossflow cleaning fan only to discover it has no ability to lift heavy loads, now they are going back to the large diameter fans and are removing paddles to get back to that good ol' paddle style setup like it should've stayed the whole time.

IMO, its not the old paddle fan that is the problem, its how they set it up that causes its shortfalls. If you open the end shields and install the hillco kit, it will change the old paddle fan's abilities amazingly. Then if you look at the NH fans, they have an open top similar to the crossflow setup, and a louver tin to direct the air. Those fans are well known for being some of the best fan systems out there, yet they are a paddle fan. I am working on a tin rework for the cih fan, but am also looking into buying a complete NH fan and shrouding from a part out yard to put intot he cih machine.

For seed, especially light seed like grass, you need volume, not pressure. IMO, this carries over to grains etc. But some rework of the tin is needed to get the air accross the whole chaffer and shoe even. That's my take on the crossflow.
