big used finger planters are very price friendly. a local guy got a late model used finger planter in real nice shape for a song and dance pretty much. he got a planter that will last him for 15 years easily and be paid off in 3!! finger planter doesn't take much power to run other then to physically pull it. it is also a non central fill planter so its lighter and only hydraulics are for lifting and folding. has liquid in furrow with dry 2x2!!
perfect planter in my book!!

but if you upgrade to a big vac planter make sure your planting tractor has the hydraulics to run the planter.

if you are used to finger units and happy with them stick with them.

I rebuild and set plenty of finger units each spring when I had finger units I got compliments on how it did, when planted next to other planters the stands looked close. BUT there is zero debate that a vac unit can do a better job day in and out. when I had finger units every couple hundred acres I checked the adjustment.

when you have a monitor that shows skips and doubles when you change seed from a heavy to a light seed or big to small you see the skips or doubles jump up, go turn the vac a little bit and bring them right back down. bam 2 minutes and you are dialed back in for perfect stands.

with finger units you can get a 100% on a test stand, but as soon as you change seed weight or shape it drops to 95%. so when you change from seed to seed what are you going to do take all the meters off and reset them for the new seed.
