He's planting 400 ac, no real need for even a 12 row but it will definitely speed the planting process. What used to take 5 days will not get done in 4 very easy days. To me a 16 row is just plain overkill. FWIW I'm with the OP, keep it finger pickup , much simpler than any air system. Meter maintenance isn't going to be much different between fingers and air, still have to disassemble , clean, replace parts, and re-assemble whether they are air ro fingers.


You don't have a vacuum planter then. He's planting more than 400 acres and if you are buying used you can buy a 16 row cheaper than a 12 sometimes.
